ترشيح اللجنة الخيرية الأشورية - العراق لمركز جديد في الأمم المتحدة

أوصت لجنة الأمم المتحدة المعنية بالمنظمات غير الحكومية بان تحصل اللجنة الخيرية الآشورية – العراق على مركز استشاري خاص لدى المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي للأمم المتحدة.

ويمكن للمنظمات التي تتمتع بمركز استشاري خاص المشاركة في اجتماعات المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي للأمم المتحدة. وتشمل معايير منح المركز الاستشاري الخاص لمنظمة غير حكومية تشمل النظر في مهمتها الإنسانية ، والحكم التنظيمي والتقييم المالي.

وقد اختارت لجنة الامم المتحدة في اجتماعها هذا الاسبوع لعام 2011 في نيويورك 25 منظمة غير حكومية فقط من مختلف أنحاء العالم لهذا الوضع.

وقد تم الاعتراف رسمياً باللجنة الخيرية الآشورية - العراق كمنظمة غير حكومية من قبل الأمم المتحدة على مدى السنوات ال 16 الماضية.

طلب الحصول على الوضع الجديد (مركز استشاري) بدأ قبل أكثر من عامين من قبل اللجنة الخيرية الآشورية - استراليا وبمساعدة اللجنة الخيرية الآشورية - امريكا.

Assyrian Aid Society - Iraq Recommended

for New Status at the United Nations

The United Nations Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations has recommended the Assyrian Aid Society-Iraq for special consultative status with the UN's Economic and Social Council.

Organizations enjoying special consultative status can participate in meetings of the UN's Economic and Social Council. Criteria for granting special consultative status to an NGO include consideration of its humanitarian mandate, organizational governance, and financial evaluation.

Only 25 NGOs from around the world were recommended for this status at the committee's 2011 meeting this week in New York.

AAS-Iraq has been an NGO officially recognized by the United Nations for the past 16 years.

Application for the new status was initiated over two years ago by AAS-Australia with assistance from the Assyrian Aid Society of America.

The Assyrian Aid Society of America is a charitable 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to assisting needy Assyrian/Chaldean/Syriacs in northern Iraq and around the world. Since 1991 AAS-A has raised nearly $8 million in donations and grants to build schools, staff and supply medical clinics, facilitate life-saving surgeries, rebuild homes, irrigate farmlands, bring electricity to rural villages and implement a host of other vital programs and services.
