As many of you have probably heard, there was a
terrorist attack on a Christian Church in Baghdad yesterday; over 27
people were killed & another 30 were wounded. To those of you who have
not heard, the attacks came after militants linked to Al-Qaida in Iraq
held more than 120 Christian parishioners hostage, threatening their
lives with suicide bombing. Unfortunately, the threats were no bluff. I
regret having had heard this news because it continues to show us our
fellow Christians being persecuted in our homeland; it is evident that
Christians are not treated equally in that nation. The AANF strongly
condemns such cowardly & barbaric acts. Such attacks on Christians &
other innocent citizens are a disgrace to humankind & to the failing
security & government system in Iraq. Unfortunately, the Western
government’s moral responsibility to protecting the many innocent &
peaceful citizens of Iraq seems forgotten.
Attacks not unlike this are also constant
reminders that we must continue to fight for our people in hopes of
creating a brighter future for our fellow Christian Assyrians in Iraq &
our future generations. By establishing a united effort aimed at
building our nation here in America, we are gradually working towards
building a nation for all of our people outside of the states, on our
own land. On behalf of the Assyrian American National Federation, I am
calling all our political, social, humanitarian, & religious
institutions to come together. I am also calling for the United States &
European governments to lend a hand in supporting our effort to
establish our own, self administered nation to protect our people. No
task is impossible; however, those that are worth accomplishing are
always a challenge. I am up for the challenge & I know you all are, as
well.
Please keep our homeland brothers &
sisters in your prayers
